At NGI, we take a multi-algorithmic approach to this test, extracting hyper-dimensional data and insights from this already comprehensive test.

The OMX is a baseline metabolomics test for NGI that helps us validate gene expression. The is a phenomic test that is best used for inborn errors of metabolism

Collection Instructions

The day before test:

Avoid consuming fruits, jams, and jellies for 48 hours prior to collecting your sample.   Do not over hydrate (no more than 6-8 glasses of water);avoid over-consuming any single food, extreme diets, or engaging in a rigorous activity (i.e. marathon); Avoid seafood.

Foods to avoid before 5 days before collection:

Artificial sweeteners, MSG, seafood, bananas, pineapples, kiwi, plums, avocados, walnuts, pecans. 

URINE COLLECTION:

 Prior to bed, empty your bladder and discard. DO NOT collect this urine specimen.  The sample you will collect is a first morning urine. Ensure it has been at least six (6) hours since you emptied your bladder.

*Female patients should not collect during menstrual period.

URINE COLLECTION:

 Upon waking in the morning, remove the top of the specimen cup and set it aside safely for reuse, then urinate directly into the cup. Collect sample, place in bag and freeze for at least 2 hours.

What to do About Supplements or Medications?

  • If you have already started taking your supplements or medications prescribed by NGI, please CONTINUE taking them.  DO NOT STOP taking any medication/supplements NOT prescribed by NGI.  

  • If you have not started your supplement program, please avoid the following for at least 2 weeks unless directed by your provider:   

  • Valproic acid, Acetaminophen, Berberine HCl, Antibiotics, antifungals, probiotics, digestive enzymes, acid blocking medications, Amphetamines, centrally acting medications, antidepressants, Anti-Parkinsonian medications, HMG-CoA-reductase inhibitors (statins) and red yeast rice, N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC), Oral contraceptives, estrogen therapy, Quercetin, Steroids, Diuretics, Fibrates, Kreb's cycle and amino chelated supplements (i.e. citrate, malate, succinate, glycinate, threonate, and orotate forms of supplements [magnesium citrate], alpha ketoglutarate, and others), Provocation/chelating agents (i.e. DMPS, DMSA, EDTA, etc.), Vitamin C   

Shipping Instructions

Place the frozen specimen bag (including the urine sample, and completed Requisition) inside the kit box.

This test is not designed for pediatric patients under the age of 2, pregnant patients or those with abnormal creatinine levels. Those using urinary catheters, please contact our office for further instructions

*The OMX does offer a Plasma/Urine collection; in most cases NGI providers will recommend the Nutreval. This is the preferred urine only test.
